What is the Vagus Nerve
https://my.clevelandclinic.org/health/diseases/23325-vasovagal-syncope
Syncope occurs when there is not enough blood flow to the brain.
today started off quite peculiar I woke up at 2 pm and I headed to campus to do some work and meet up and have coffee with a friend um I made myself a matcha latte and when I arrived at Gates Prima they were no longer serving hot food so I was only able to get a croissant. After getting "lunch" with my friend I sat and I worked for a little bit before heading to church which started at 6 p m.
I walked into church around 6:20 which was 20 minutes late and so it was close to the time where we kneel when I was kneeling I had was biting my fingernail and a hangnail had formed and so I ripped it off and my finger index finger started bleeding to staunch the bleeding I was sucking the blood from my finger and before I knew it I was very dizzy. I experienced my I felt like my eyes were closing but I was falling I can't describe the feeling I was falling inside my own head I was trying to tell myself to wake up but I couldn't do so.
I woke to see very many people surrounding me there was a physician holding his left hand behind my neck and high right hand was on my wrist measuring my pulse. There were other doctors and medical specialist around me um I woke and the physician asked me if I was okay I immediately realized that I had passed out and I think it was due to my finger that was bleeding and also my lack of food that I had today.
I was escorted out of the church with the physician who was sitting in front of me and he was telling me about the vagus nerve and it's potential role in me passing out. The physician checked me out and told me that I was going to be a-ok. He said that this happened a lot to people, countless times. He told me that EMS was on their way and transfered my care over to a paramedic. I sat with the paramedic and told him that I was also an EMT with the CMU EMS. He told me that he would have to look out for me next time because his unit gets calls from CMU often. I was so embarassed the entire time. We talked for about 20 minutes before the other paramedics the city paramedics arrived they assess me I was fine.
During their assessment, the took my blood pressure. It was 112/palp. They also did an orthostatic pressure. They took my pulse and oxygen saturation. Lastly they took my glucose which was 84.
I conclude my syncopal expisode to a lack of food and my bleeding finger. was due to a lack of food and um the kind paramedic who had stayed with me had quote unquote smoozed his way to the other paramedic friend and they drove me home in the back of their ambulance (I had never been before) and now I'm home riding this
